Just-in-Time

After a proposal is submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the NIH may contact the applicant for additional information prior to award. The NIH refers to this as the Just-in-Time (JIT) procedure. All JIT submissions require review by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). Follow these steps if you receive a JIT request from the NIH:

  1. Open the appropriate Funding Proposal record in MyFunding and select the “Notify OSP of Grants Status” activity.
  2. Indicate “JIT Info Requested” as the Grant Status, attach the JIT request documents received from the sponsor, and click “OK” to submit to OSP.
  3. If the JIT should be submitted to the sponsor via email from the Authorized Organization Representative, make a note of all individuals who should receive the email.
  4. If a revised JIT is required after submission to the sponsor, the “Submit Additional JIT to Sponsor” activity can be used as many times as necessary.

For other pre-award sponsor requests for additional information or materials after proposal submission, follow the JIT process described above and clearly indicate the the sponsor point of contact and the information and materials that should be provided to the sponsor. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Grants and Contracts Officer or Grants Analyst.

You can find additional information specific to using MyFunding for the JIT process in the Processing a Just-in-Time Request Quick Guide.
