Many sponsors require prior approval to complete certain actions on an award. For example, a sponsor may require prior approval for significant re-budgeting, changing the PI, adding a new subaward, or requesting a no-cost extension. It is important to read the Terms and Conditions of your award to understand what actions require prior approval.
A prior approval matrix exists to identify prior approval requirements for the following federal agencies:
- National Science Foundation (NSF)
- Department of Energy (DOE)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA)
- Department of Commerce (DOC)
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
