The National Institutes of Health (NIH) require Final Invention Statements (FIS) and Final Research Performance Progress Reports (FRPPR) to be routed and submitted through the Signing Official (SO) in eRA Commons. The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) serves as the delegated SO for the University of Pittsburgh. Principal Investigators (PIs) should work with their departmental research administrators to ensure that any eRA Commons request is also routed to OSP in PERIS™ MyFunding.
All 3 steps are required for submitting final reports to the NIH:
- The PI completes the FIS and FRPPR in eRA Commons. Once ready, the department administrator must submit the request via Award Modification Request (AMR) and include copies of the FIS and FRPPR, otherwise, OSP will be unaware of these submission in eRA Commons. Applicable due dates should be noted.
- OSP reviews the FRPPR request in MyFunding and eRA Commons and submits the report to NIH in eRA Commons. OSP sends FIS reports to the Innovation Institute for verification with known invention disclosures. Once the FIS is confirmed by Innovation Institute, OSP submits the FIS in eRA Commons.
- The Final Federal Financial Report (FFR) is completed by Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA), and all questions regarding its submission should be directed to SPA.
Routing requests through MyFunding ensures that OSP is aware and that the request is centrally recorded as part of the related funding proposal (FP) or award (AWD) record. For additional information, see the previously issued Tips of the Week: “Route Final Project Reports to OSP Early” and “The Importance of Submitting Progress Reports and final Reports on Time”.
