Other Transaction Agreements (OTAs) Are Becoming More Common

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) processed an increasing volume of Other Transaction Agreements in the past few years. An Other Transaction Agreement/Authority (OTA) is a legal contract with the federal government that is not a grant, cooperative agreement, or federal contract. The federal government uses OTAs to streamline research and development, prototype development, and other projects with nonprofit research institutions.

In PERIS™ MyFunding, department research administrators should select “Yes” if the Funding Opportunity indicates that the award mechanism can be issued as an OTA:

Within OSP, OTAs are processed by the Federal Contract Services Team. You can send any questions about OTA proposals or awards to fedcon@pitt.edu.

For more information on OTAs, see the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website on OTAs.
